Bismarck Bobcats News Release

ABERDEEN, SD--Friday night, the Bismarck Bobcats taught the Aberdeen Wings exactly what winning six in a row to end the season does for your playoff chances.

Absolutely nothing.

After dropping the last six contests to the rival from South Dakota, the Bobcats, in one effort, turned home ice on it's head with a 4-2 win in the opener of the NAHL Central Division semi-finals in Aberdeen.

Key scoring came in threes for the Bobcats. After an outstanding rookie season, Cullen Willox (Eagan, MN) racked up three assists, two in the second period when the Bobcats scored three times.

Add Evan Giesler's (Naperville, IL) hat trick to the equation, and a hat trick of triples proved decisive in snatching home ice away from Aberdeen, with game two in Aberdeen tomorrow night, and games three and four of the best-of-five in Bismarck next weekend.

Giesler and Willox teamed for the opening goal, a power-play marker at 3:39 of the first after Zach Doerring was called for tripping 55 seconds previous, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 edge.

Aberdeen struck back with TJ Roo's power play goal less than two minutes later at 5:38, a goal that followed a charging call on Huba Sekesi (Munich, Germany). The game was 1-1 after one.

The Bobcat trick in the second started with Giesler completing one of his own. Sekesi and Willox found him at 6:17 of the period, taking the lead to 2-1. German and Willox then set up his third of the night at 14:55. When Filip Starzynski added an unassisted goal at 16:01, the Bobcats led 4-1, a lead they took to the third.

Drew Doyon earned one goal back for the Wings in the final frame, but Bobcat goalie Aaron Nelson finished a solid effort stopping 29 shots in the win.

The teams meet in game two of the series tomorrow night in Aberdeen. The game will be broadcast on SuperTalk 1270 KLXX, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m., and the game can be seen on FastHockey, and will be shown on the big screens at the Elks Club in Bismarck.

Make it a Great Day !
