MINOT, ND--It took seven rounds of shootout hockey for a victor to emerge in Minot Friday night.

Minot was one shot better.

Tim Donohue ended the shootout marathon with a fire over the glove hand of Scott Albertoni (Arvada, CO) to lift the Minot Minotauros to a 3-2 win over the Bismarck Bobcats at Maysa Arena.

Huba Sekesi (Munich, Germany) preserved the game for the Bobcats with an extra-attacker goal at 19:11 of the third period, then earned the Bobcats' only lead with a goal in the shootout's second round.

But Colton Kramer scored immediately after Sekesi, and the next four shooters for each side were stopped. Donohue ended the game after a miss by Cullen Willox in the seventh round.

The Bobcats (29-21-5) earned a point but fell 10 back of Austin for first place, and seven back of Aberdeen for second, with only five games left, leaving hopes of home ice in the opening round of the playoffs faint.

Minot (22-30-3) took their lead over Brookings for the final playoff spot to eight points with five to play. The Minotauros can clinch the spot by coupling a win or overtime loss Saturday night with a Brookings loss.

There was no scoring till 30 minutes in. Jack McCann delivered the opening goal after Bobcat defender Chris Diver (Wilmington, DE) was pulled down along the Bobcat blue line, allowing Minot to develop a three-on-one rush finished by McCann with a wrister at 10:00 of the third.

Tyler Dunagan (Maple Grove, MN) tied the game at 12:30, lifting a rebounded puck over Brandon Wildung.

Albertoni was brilliant for the Bobcats in the third, turning away several quality chances from the Minotauros. He would stop 30 shots on the night.

But Jon Lizotte, a Minotauro that has hurt the Bobcats all year, came through again at 15:29 of the third. He blasted into traffic from the left point, allowing Tyler Shipstad to tip the puck in for a 2-1 edge.

Sekesi's extra-attacker effort sent the game to overtime, but the Minotauros outshot the Bobcats 4-0 in the frame. The shootout loss sent the Bobcats to their ninth defeat in their last 10 games.

The Bobcats host the Minotauros Saturday night at the VFW Sports Center. Tickets are available at 222-3300 or online at www.bismarckbobcats.com.
