CLOQUET, MN - Eyeing a bounce-back from a hard-to-swallow last-second loss on Wednesday, the Bismarck Bobcats will strike out on the road for a pair of games against the Minnesota Wilderness at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.
It is the first visit of the year for the Cats to Cloquet, where they have gone 4-1-1 over the past two seasons in interdivision play; 2016-17 marks the Wilderness' first season as a member of the Central Division-having played in the Midwest their first three years in the NAHL.
Despite Wednesday's 3-2 heartbreaker to Aberdeen, the Bobcats sit just one point behind Minnesota, who are tied for second with Brookings, in the Central standings.
"There are four huge points in the division in front of us right now against one of the teams ahead of us," surveyed Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie. "The other two teams we're behind are Minot and Brookings and they play each other this weekend so it's a chance for us to make up ground on at least two teams."
In their only previous matchup of this season, the Wilderness scored four straight-including three consecutive power play goals-to amass a large lead then hold off a last-second Bobcat rally to win 4-3 at the VFW Sports Center on November 12.
"Coming that close to winning even though we were down 4-0 is definitely motivation for us this weekend," noted Bobcats forward Tobias Fladeby, who had his season-high seven-game point streak halted Wednesday. "Now we need to take how we played in the last six minutes [on November 12] and play that way the whole 60 minutes both nights."
Fladeby leads the Cats in goals (11), assists (15) and points (26) just over one-third of the way through the franchise's 20th season. Winger Parker Mismash is also over 20 points this season with 23 on nine goals and 14 assists.
Reigning Central Division Star of the Week Tim Nicksic remains the Wilderness' top scorer with 25 points (13g, 12a); the Tomah, Wisc., native is tied for the division lead in goals with Minot's Alex Adams. Minnesota blueliner Louis Roehl has the most assists among all skaters in the Central with 17.
Friday's series opener will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270 AM, and worldwide on HockeyTV.com-the web television partner of the North American Hockey League-with pregame coverage starting at 6:35pm.
