Bobby Boots Breast Cancer Initiative Set for October 4 Home Game

HOUSTON, TX (Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013) - The Houston Dynamo and Dynamo Charities announced today their fourth-annual Bobby Boots Breast Cancer initiative, benefitting the Houston Methodist Cancer Center.

The campaign, led by veteran Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell, is a partnership between Dynamo Charities and MLS WORKS to raise funds and awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The initiative is also part of MLS' breast cancer awareness campaign, an element of the Soccer Kicks Cancer platform. The cornerstone event of Bobby Boots Breast Cancer will be held when the Houston Dynamo host the Montreal Impact on Friday, Oct. 4 at BBVA Compass Stadium. The game is presented by Houston Methodist Hospital System.

"Breast Cancer is a constant threat to our mothers, daughters, sisters and other significant women in our lives," said Boswell. "This campaign has been very successful over the last four years, so this year's effort is another opportunity to show that what we do is important. Every year we make a difference in the fight to eradicate this terrible disease."

A special Bobby Boots Breast Cancer ticket package, benefitting the Houston Methodist Cancer Center, is available for the game and will benefit the Houston Methodist Cancer Center. The $50 ticket package includes: Two tickets to the Dynamo game on Oct. 6, two pink Dynamo t-shirts and a donation to the Houston Methodist Cancer Center.

"Everyone at the Houston Methodist Cancer Center is extremely grateful for the efforts led by Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell to help raise awareness for breast cancer research," said Jennifer Berry, Director of the cancer center's infusion services. "Without research, our patients, their families, physicians and nurses cannot continue to fight against cancer."

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dynamo players, coaches and staff will wear pink during the game in support of the cause. At halftime, over 400 cancer survivors and victim supporters are expected to form a "human pink ribbon" as a tribute.

MLS WORKS will also host an online auction after the game with game-worn items from across Major League Soccer to contribute to fundraising efforts.

This initiative also includes a Name in Lights campaign. For a $25 donation, fans may honor a victim or survivor of breast cancer with their name displayed on the BBVA Compass Stadium LED board during the game. The message will also be read over the stadium PA system and will be displayed at www.HoustonDynamo.com/charities. All donors will receive a pink wristband.
