Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Two offensive zone plays on the left half wall turned Tuesday's game at Young Arena into a 2-1 victory for the Waterloo Black Hawks against the Sioux City Musketeers.
Waterloo had trailed for 35 of the first 40 minutes as the third period began. Just out of the intermission, Jeremy Jacques was under pressure outside the left wing circle in Musketeer territory. The puck got away from him, but he recovered, coming off the boards to feed Solag Bakich, who was suddenly in front of the Sioux City net with linemate Jackson Cates and no defenders in the area. Bakich gave the puck to Waterloo's highest scorer, and Cates fired in his 28th goal of the season at the 27 second mark.
With the seal on the net broken, the Hawks took the lead less than three minutes later. This time, Ben Copeland was able to hold onto the puck inside the Sioux City blue line in traffic on the left dasherboard as the Hawks completed a line change. Jack Drury and Bobby Trivigno were fresh to the ice when Copeland eventually put the puck into the corner. Drury tracked it down and setup a Trivigno wraparound which beat Matt Jurusik at 3:05 and proved to be the game-winner.
Sioux City had recorded the only goal of the first period on their first power play of the night. At 5:01, Sampo Ranta unleashed a three-quarter slap shot from the left point, which zipped through traffic past a screened Jared Moe.
The Hawks netminder stopped everything else Sioux City tried. Moe made 21 saves for his 16th win of the season. Jurusik made 34 saves in the loss.
Waterloo's next three games are on the road, beginning with a matchup against the Lincoln Stars on Friday. The Hawks and Musketeers meet again on Saturday at Tyson Event Center.
