Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
The Springfield Jr. Blues lost a close win Friday night in a shootout with the Alexandria Blizzard, but win the second of the weekend series 4-3
In Friday's game, Alexandria got off to a two-goal lead before Springfield came back to take a 3rd period, 3-2 lead with goals from Matt Globke(Colin Trachsel, Matt Larke), Jarod Rickord(Patterson, Greco) and Taylor Kennedy(Rickord, Crowder). Alexandria tied the game on a power play with only 58 seconds remaining. The Blues hit the post on two occassions in the overtime period but couldn't find the back of the net. In the shootout, four Springfield shooters failed to score while Alexandria scored twice for the OT win. On the bright side, Springfield gets a point for an overtime loss.
In Sundays game, The Jr. Blues came out on fire scoring three unanswered goals by the end of the second period. Matt Globke continued on his scoring spree, assisted by Matt Larke, at 14:39 of the first period. Five seconds later, Scott Keevan scored again, assisted by TK Kennedy. Mohler scored next with 21 seconds remaining in the period, assisted by Cory Patterson and Kyle Greco. Alexandria came back with two goals in the 3rd to get within one. Howver, Jon Gaffney scored into an empty net to seal the win.
"The guys played very well this weekend", stated coach Chris Wyler. " We had multiple opportunities to win the game Friday night, but three out of four points on the road isn't bad. The 18 day layoff showed early on. But once we got moving, we pretty much controlled the games. Phil Cooke played exceptional in net and made some big saves when we needed them. We need to do well next week in S. Minnesota as it will set up a big series the following weekend at home against first-place N. Iowa".
The N. Iowa Outlaws will be in town on February 22, 23 and 24th. With the battle on for home-ice playoff spots, every game is becoming more and more important. The top four teams from each division make the playoffs and there is only an eleven point spread between the second, third and fourth place teams in the Central Division.
