LOS ANGELES (March 23, 2015) - After a successful 3-0 win over Loyola Marymount University on Sunday, March 22nd, the Blues are ready to start their season on the right foot.

Orange County Blues FC scrimmaged the college team late Sunday afternoon for their final preseason game. The majority of the game was held by Orange County, with several shots being taken on the LMU goalkeeper in the first ten minutes of the game.

Swiss midfielder Didier Crettenand took advantage of a foul just outside the box to fire a free kick into the net for the first goal of the match in the 18th minute. Later in the half the Lions continued in their efforts to keep back the pro team as much as they could. Forward Denzel Slager made several good crosses and showed his speed when he tore up the right flank, sweeping by LMU defenders, and on one play crossed back to Jiovanni Santana who took a shot that missed just wide of the goal.

Seung Ju Kim started a play at midfield that resulted in an impressive back heel pass from J. Santana back to trialist Amani Walker, who was ready and shot the ball into the lower right corner of the goal. The final goal of the match came in the 85th minute when defender Josh Suggs was taken down by a Lion defender in the box. The penalty kick was slotted home by Crettenand to give the Blues a final score of 3-0.

LMU stayed strong throughout the game to also challenge the Blues goal. Former Lion Billy Thompson played a full 90 minutes in the goal against his alma mater. The goalkeeper and the defense had a satisfying game holding the Lion offense at bay. The first shot on goal by Loyola was in the 70th minute, a Lion forward got past the Blues defenders to shoot straight at Thompson who was ready to make the save.

The Blues open the 2015 season on Saturday, March 28th vs Arizona United SC. Kickoff is 7:00PM from UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium.
