Bluefish trounce Camden, 18-9

(Bridgeport, CT - June 29, 2009) - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Camden Riversharks in the opener of a three-game series on Monday 18-9 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The fireworks are scheduled for Wednesday night but there were plenty of fireworks present on the field as the Bluefish offense exploded in game one. Jesse Hoorelbeke led the Bluefish offense going 4-for-5 with two runs scored, a grand slam in the fifth inning and another three-run shot in the seventh inning bringing his RBI total to eight on the night. Hoorelbeke's eight RBI ties Brandon Sing's single-game record, which was set this year on May 8th vs. Long Island. Brandon Sing saw Hoorelbeke's eight RBI with a big day of his own. Sing went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two walks, three RBI and two runs scored. Todd Davison continued his impressive hitting going 3-for-6 with a double, three RBI, and three runs scored.

Franklin Perez made his fourth start of the year on the mound for the ‘Fish going five innings allowing three runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out three. It was reliever Matt Pike (4-3) however, who was credited with the win. Pike went two and two-thirds innings pitched and allowed no runs on one hit and one walk.

Nate Bump took his league best 1.90 ERA into 12th start of the year. Bump lasted four innings and allowed seven hits, six runs, three walks and fanned two. Jose Leon made some noise for the Riversharks offensively by going 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Brian Burgamy also had a nice night by going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.
