Is Lance Odom vindicated?
Almost two years ago to the day, Odom did the unthinkable, throwing a wild pitch during an intentional walk, allowing Danny Garcia to jog home with the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning in Somerset.
Monday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium, history was relived, only in reverse. Tip Fairchild uncorked a wild pitch while trying to intentionally walk Danny Bravo in the bottom of the 12th, and Jed Morris raced home from third as the Barnstormers stayed alive in the first half with a bizarre 4-3 win in front of 4,053.

Morris opened the bottom of the 12th with a double into the right field corner, his third extra base hit of the night. Somerset intentionally walked Aaron Herr, and Gerard Haran's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third. Patriots manager Sparky Lyle called for Fairchild (3-2) to put Bravo on first to bring Bryan Sabatella to the plate with the bases loaded. However, Fairchild skipped a pitch past the reach of catcher Jason Belcher, giving Morris the plate and the Barnstormers the win.
Michael Campbell gave the Barnstormers a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a homer down the right field line, and Morris tacked on a solo homer in the third, his sixth of the season.
Meanwhile, Zack Parker allowed only one run on two hits in seven innings of work. He was nipped in the second on a leadoff walk to Matt Hagen, a wild pitch and a one-out bloop single down the right field line by Travis Anderson. After that hit, Parker proceeded to retire 12 batters in a row and 15 of the remaining 17 he faced on the night, facing only two batters over the minium for his seven inning stint. He fanned a season high nine.
However, the snakebitten lefty still could not pick up his first win of the year, despite dealing his fifth quality start. Travis Anderson walked to start the eighth and moved to second on a single to left by Teuris Olivares. Elliott Ayala cranked a two-run double over the head of center fielder Michael Woods, tying the game. Ayala was thrown out at third on a close play, setting up the extra-inning battle.
Neither side could find the play to break the tie. Lancaster left runners in scoring position in the ninth, tenth and 11th innings. Somerset loaded the bases with one out in the 11th off Neal Musser, but the lefty battled back to strike out Hagen and get Jeff Nettles on a harmless fly ball to right. The Patriots filled the bags again in the 12th as Musser walked Anderson and Ayala, and Ross Peeples yielded a single to right by Mike Rodriguez. Peeples (2-2) was then able to settle down and get Sean Smith and Joe Burke on strikes to end the threat.
