
Bluefish Fall in Finale of Series

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 17, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (22-28) suffered a loss in the final game of the series against the Lancaster Barnstormers (30-20) as the home team was defeated by a score of 6-3 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday. The Bluefish remain three wins shy of 1,000 in franchise history.
James Simmons picked up three hits which included a bases-clearing double to leftcenter, in the eighth, for the Bluefish. Angel Flores had the only other multiple hit contest for the home team. Elliott Ayala, Peter Barrows, and Eddie Rogers had the only other hits for the home team. Ayala reached base three times on the day and Luis Lopez got on base twice on walks.
Blake Gailen represented one of two players who made offensive contributions for the Barnstormers. The outfielder delivered a grand slam to left in the second inning. His tenth homer of the year gave his team a lead the road team would have through the rest of the game. Fehlandt Lentini lifted a two-run homer to left in the eighth frame to increase the lead to six before Bridgeport tried to come back.
Bridgeport starter, Raymar Diaz (1-6), suffered the loss as the righthander allowed four runs (none earned) on four hits, three walks and seven strikeouts. Mike Tarsi tossed three scoreless frames in relief of Diaz while striking out a batter. Wynn Pelzer and Kyle Zaleski completed the final two frames. The tandem surrendered two runs on three hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
Lancaster hurler, John Halama (5-3), won the game as the southpaw starter tossed six innings of scoreless baseball on five hits and three walks while fanning three. Jason Urquidez, Beau Vaughan, Jeff Bennett and Tim Hamulack worked the rest of the contest. The combination of pitchers gave up three runs on three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts with Hamulack notching his eleventh save of the year.
Bridgeport starts another series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on the road on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Bluefish will send righthanded starter Tobi Stoner (1-7, 7.04 ERA) to the hill against righthanded starter J.D. Durbin (2-4, 4.20 ERA). The pre-game show airs twenty minutes before each first pitch.
