Bluefish Drop Surf, 9-4

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (July 7, 2002) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (36-26) put together a five-run seventh inning to drop the Atlantic City Surf (27-34), 9-4, Sunday evening at the Sandcastle.

Surf reliever Dave Carroll entered in the seventh with the game tied at 4-4. After Jose Amado doubled in Jeff Anderson, Oreste Marrero stepped up and delivered a double that plated Rolo Avila and Amado. Marrero later scored after he stole third base and advanced home on an error by Surf catcher Gerald Butt.

An RBI double by Brendan Kingman scored Dwayne Hosey, who singled, capping off a five-run inning that gave the Bluefish a lead they would hold on to. Al Sontag (2-4) pitched the final four innings allowing no runs on three hits to pick up the victory for the Bluefish.

The Surf squandered a solid start by Maximo Nunez who went six innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out two and walking one.

Bluefish starter Masaru Imazeki tossed five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking two. Chad Gambill went 3-4 with a solo home run and Keith Gordon added an RBI double for the Surf.

Avila finished 3-5 with a triple while Marrero, Amado, Hosey, and Kingman had two hits each for Bridgeport.
