
Bluefish Bats Come Alive In Victory Over Skeeters

(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 23, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (15-13) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (12-17) 7-3 to even up the four-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on a beautiful Saturday night in the Park City. Bridgeport had 13 hits on the evening, marking the 12th time this season in just 28 games played that they have registered double-digits in the hit column.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Mike Antonini (2-2) picked up the win, going six innings, giving up four hits and three runs, walking one and striking out eight. Sugar Land Starting Pitcher Shane Loux (0-2) suffered the loss after five and two-thirds innings pitched, allowing ten hits and six runs (four earned runs), striking out three.
The Bluefish took the lead in the bottom half of the third inning and never looked back. With the game scoreless, Nick Van Stratten belted a two-run double down the left field line, scoring Luis Rodriguez and Ildemaro Vargas, who each reached base on back-to-back singles with one out. Van Stratten would then score on an RBI single by Sean Burroughs, and just like that the 'Fish led 3-0. Bridgeport made it 4-0 in the bottom half of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Rodriguez, scoring John Alonso who reached earlier in the half-inning on an infield single. The Bluefish broke the game open in the bottom half of the sixth inning, scoring three runs to make it 6-0 in their favor, highlighted by a run-scoring single off the bat of James Simmons, scoring Alonso. Van Stratten, Burroughs, Rodriguez, and Welington Dotel each had two hits for Bridgeport.
The 'Fish continue the Memorial Day Weekend series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday, May 24th, when they battle the Sugar Land Skeeters in the third game of the four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
