New York Bluefins News Release

The Cape Cod Bluefins are proud to announce that Dan Gordon will be the new Head Coach and Assistant General Manager. Dan will take the reins after a solid year as the team's Player Asst-Coach. Dan was able to learn a lot about the league, players, and the overall toughness of what it takes to succeed and develop young professional athletes to make it to the next level. He is ready to move behind the bench and is extremely excited for the upcoming year.

"I couldn't be more happy and excited for the opportunity Mike Nugnes has given me to be back this season with the Cape Cod Bluefins. Playing here last yr and developing such a close relationship with Mike is the reason I wanted to the job. The Cape is such an extraordinary place with such a great history, it was an honor to play pro hockey here and now coach." Gordon, a Lynnfield native, has a degree from the University of Southern Maine in Business and Sports Management where he played his final two years of college hockey. After his senior year, he was an assistant coach at USM. "I learned a lot about coaching that year, and I knew it was something I wanted to pursue in the future, but I also wanted to keep playing because I missed the game so much."

Gordon started his collegiate career at Hockey-East school UMass-Amherst on a scholarship. After two years at UMass Gordon went on to the University of Southern- Maine where he totaled 64 points in two seasons, and after his senior year he was a finalist for the Joe Concannon Award for best American-born in the NCAA Division II/III ranks. After a year off, he moved onto Europe where he was a top scorer in France. Last season, Dan played 24 games for the Bluefins, missing over half the season with an injury, tallied 8 goals and 24 points, and led the Bluefins during the playoffs with 2 goals and 4 points in three games. "I believe in what Mike Nugnes is trying to do here with the Bluefins organization. It's not just about hockey here; it's about the community of Cape Cod. For me and my players that's what it's going to be about, just giving our support to the Cape and keeping a great tradition going. There's a lot in store for the upcoming season, and it's not just all hockey, I couldn't be more excited to be part of it with the Bluefins." Team President Mike Nugnes couldn't be happier about the selection of Coach Gordon.

"The hockey aspect for us is developing young players to help them move on to the next level. For some that's moving to double AA or triple AAA with hard work and determination. For Dan it's the coaching ranks, and we are very excited to have him. It's a tough economy out there these days, and it's hard for college graduates to find jobs. The Bluefins want to offer jobs to young adults, which love the game and are interested in not only bringing a championship to the Cape, but making a difference in the Cape Community. Dan is that guy."
