Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws will have a new sound during the team's broadcast this season. Former BlueClaws voice, Ben Wagner will become the lead play-by-play broadcaster for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
"We're all very happy for Ben and the opportunity in Buffalo," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "The Bisons are a topnotch organization and Ben will be a great addition to their broadcast booth and the front office."
Wagner, 26, has spent the last three seasons with the BlueClaws, the Single-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2006, he called Lakewood's South Atlantic League Championship. Along with his broadcasting duties, he coordinated all media and public relations and represented his team in the community through numerous speaking engagements and appearances. This off-season, he also served as the play-by-play voice for the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore men's and women's basketball teams.
"The BlueClaws have given me an incredible opportunity to start my broadcasting career," said Wagner. "Not many have the chance to start in a wonderful organization like Lakewood. The staff, the fans and the community overall will be missed. At the same time, I'm excited to broadcast for a Triple-A franchise and get a step closer to my dream of broadcasting Major League Baseball."
Wagner is the second broadcaster for the Lakewood BlueClaws to reach the Triple-A level. The team's inaugural voice, Neil Solondz, continues to call games for the Durham Bulls.
Brendan Burke and Greg Giombarrese will split play- by-play duties for the BlueClaws this season. All 140 BlueClaws games will be carried over the air on WOBM-AM (1160) and WADB (1310), blanketing Monmouth and Ocean counties. Each game may also be heard online and free of charge via www.BlueClaws.com.
The Lakewood BlueClaws are defending South Atlantic League Champions and open the 2007 season April 5, 2007 at FirstEnergy Park at 6:35 p.m. against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
The BlueClaws have led the league in attendance every year, adding 448,310 fans in 2006. This season, the BlueClaws will become the fastest team in South Atlantic League and New Jersey baseball history to reach the 3 million fan attendance mark.
