LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws emerged victorious over the Kannapolis Intimidators in their first game of the 2011 season by a score of 2-0. Starter Mario Hollands picked up the win in his first start as a BlueClaw after throwing 5 shutout innings, scattering 5 hits and striking out 3. Tyler Knigge and Eric Pettis came in out the BlueClaws bullpen and slammed the door shut as they each pitched 2 perfect innings of relief.

BlueClaws 1B Jim Murphy led off the 2nd inning with a monster Home Run to Left Field for the first hit of 2011 for Lakewood. 3B Jeremy Barnes hit the ball hard all four times he was at the plate, but was robbed of some hits by some very nice defense by Kannapolis. Barnes finished the day 1-4 with a run scored.

RHP Ryan Buch pitched a gem of a game for Kannapolis going 6 strong innings, and allowing just 1 hit on the solo HR by Murphy while picking up the loss. Nobody on the Intimidators finished the game with more than 1 hit and the finished the game with the same number of hits as Lakewood with 5.

Friday, the BlueClaws will send RHP David Buchanan to the mound, and Kannapolis will counter with RHP Jake Petricka. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at FirstEnergy Park.
