Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

Taylor Buchholz became the second former BlueClaws pitcher to advance to the World Series when his Colorado Rockies completed the sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Championship Series on October 16.

Ezequiel Astacio was the first, making his Major League Debut with Houston in 2005 and took the loss in game three of the World Series later that season. Both Buchholz and Astacio were traded by the Phillies with Brandon Duckworth to the Astros for Billy Wagner on November 3, 2003.

Buchholz was the starting pitcher in the first ever Lakewood-

BlueClaws game in April 2001. Spending the entire season with the BlueClaws, he compiled a record of 9-14 that year with a 3.36 ERA and led the team in starts (26), innings pitched (176.2), complete games (5) and was second in strikeouts (136) behind Robinson Tejeda.

Selected in the sixth round of the 2000 draft by the Phillies, the native of Lower Merion Township, PA made his MLB debut on April 7, 2006 with the Astros. On December 12, 2006, the Astros traded Buchholz along with Willy Tavares and Jason Hirsh to Colorado for pitchers Jason Jennings and Miguel Asencio.

This season, the 26-year-old right-hander recorded a 6-5 regular season record with a 4.32 ERA in 41 games, including eight starts. He has not pitched yet in the postseason for the Rockies.
