LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The six-month winter baseball drought in Lakewood is about to finally end, as the BlueClaws will host their annual open practice on Tuesday, April 3rd at FirstEnergy Park. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. with the practice to follow at 6. Admission is free.

Additionally, BlueClaws staff members will be receiving their championship rings, a few weeks after the players were honored in a Clearwater ceremony on March 15th.

Fans can come out to the ballpark to watch the 2007 BlueClaws work out in preparation for their April 5th opener. It will be the first opportunity to see the team after they break camp on April 1st. There will also be the opportunity for fans to get player autographs after the workout.

"This event has been very popular over the years for our fans," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "We're all anxious to get the season going, and what better way than to finally take out the bats and balls? The fact that our staff will be getting their championship rings makes it an even bigger occasion."

The ring ceremony will take place on the field before the practice and is also open to the public. Also featured will be a tribute montage to the 2006 Championship team.

The Lakewood BlueClaws are defending South Atlantic League Champions and open the 2007 season April 5, 2007 at FirstEnergy Park at 6:35 p.m. against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

The BlueClaws have led the league in attendance in each year of existence, adding 448,310 fans in 2006. This season, the BlueClaws will become the fastest team in South Atlantic League and New Jersey baseball history to reach the 3 million fan attendance mark.
