BlueClaws Fall in Walk-Off Fashion 4-3 in Opener

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mike Hickman's RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning brought home Tate Blackman and gave Kannapolis a 4-3 win over the BlueClaws on Opening Night at Intimidators Stadium.

Blackmon, who was 3-4 with a home run and a double, singled to start the inning off Luis Ramirez (0-1). He was able to score from first on Hickman's double to complete the walk-off win.

The BlueClaws (0-1) fall to 8-10 all-time on Opening Day.

Nick Maton put the BlueClaws up 2-1 with a home run in the 5th inning before Tate Blackman tied the game with a Kannapolis home run in the bottom of the inning.

The BlueClaws took the lead back in the sixth when Malvin Matos reached on an error by shortstop Laz Rivera allowing Quincy Nieporte to score. The lead, however, lasted only an inning, as Kannapolis tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on an error on BlueClaws third baseman Jake Scheiner.

Lakewood starter Ramon Rosso allowed two runs one earned, in 4.2 innings with three walks and four strikeouts. Kannapolis starter Kade McClure allowed three runs, two earned, over six innings while striking out seven.

Scheiner and Maton each had two hits for the BlueClaws in the loss, while Blackman had three hits and scored three of the four Kannapolis runs.

The BlueClaws continue their series with Kannapolis on Friday night at 7:05 pm. LHP Will Stewart (--) makes his first start of the year opposite RHP Lincoln Nenzman (--).
