LAKEWOOD, NJ â The Lakewood BlueClaws were defeated 3-1 Monday afternoon by the Charleston (SC) River Dogs in Dunedin. The BlueClaws spring training record evened at 5-5-1 after their next-to-last meeting with the Toronto Blue Jays South Atlantic League affiliate.
Infielder Jack Headley knocked in the lone Lakewood run with a double and finished with two hits in four at-bats. Outfielder Javon Moran singled and scored the BlueClaws run and also added a stolen base. Outfielder Jake Blalock picked up one hit in three tries, as he continued his torrid spring at the plate.
Starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick worked three innings in which he gave up one unearned run and was followed by Matt Sweeney, who went four innings and gave up a lone run. Manager PJ Forbes said both pitched real well and that he was pleased with the overall performance of the club.
