Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

The Wilmington Blue Rocks' series with the Brooklyn Cyclones has evened up after they dropped their latest matchup 3-2 on Thursday, June 16.

Despite picking up the loss, the Blue Rocks were the first to get on the board in the bottom of the first when Yasel Antuna hit a sac fly to bring home Darren Baker, who reached third on a wild pitch after stealing second.

On the defensive side, Wilmington starter Michael Cuevas struggled a little as he gave up five walks in his three innings of work. Cuevas was able to leave the mound with no runs given up yet with a man on first in the top of the fourth, but relief pitcher Troy Stainbrook wasn't able to get the Blue Rocks out of the inning.

Stainbrook would allow two more base runners and give up three singles that drove in all of the Cyclones runs on the night.

The Blue Rocks tried to answer back in the bottom half of the frame, as they would load the bases with one out. They were only able to add on one more run when Baker drew a two-out walk that drove in Drew Mendoza.

The fourth inning would be where all scoring would end in the matchup, as the next five innings both teams would draw blanks.

The Blue Rocks did have opportunities to even up the game, the best one being in the bottom of the ninth with Cole Daily on second with one out. Brooklyn's relief pitcher Sammy Tavarez would throw a wild pitch while facing Jose Sanchez, allowing Daily to take off for third. Daily would not stop there though, as he try to make it home, but Tavarez was able to easily tag him out.

The Blue Rocks and Cyclones are now tied at two wins a piece with four more games to play in the long series. The two will face off next on Friday, June 17 with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m.
