Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
LAST NIGHT'S NEWS: The Blue Rocks four-game winning streak came to an end with a 10-9, 10-inning loss to the Warthogs at Ernie Shore Field last night. Robert Valido drove in the game-winning run with a single against losing pitcher Randy Beam (2-3) in the 10th. Scott White collected three hits in the loss for the Blue Rocks. Ehren Wasserman (2-1) blew a save opportunity, but managed the win. Carlos Lee hit two homers in the victory for the Warthogs, who hit five in the game.
10 AND COUNTING: Scott White went 3-for-5 with three singles last night and has hit safely in 10 in a row. White has eight RBI over his last five games after going 15 straight games without an RBI. He hit safely in a team-high 12 in a row from April 9-23.
THE LONG BALL: The Blue Rocks and Warthogs combined for 13 home runs over the first two games of the series. The Warthogs have hit 14 home runs against the Blue Rocks over the first five games of the season between the two clubs.
THEFT ON THE BASES: The Warthogs stole five bases in last night's win against the Blue Rocks. Jeff Ontiveros has thrown out only 19 percent (7-for-37) of the potential base stealers in 2005.
NOT ONE, BUT TWO: Carlos Lee hit two home runs last night in Winston- Salem's win. Lee is the sixth different player (third from Winston-Salem) to hit two home runs in a game against the Blue Rocks this season (see page two).
ON THE OFFENSIVE: The Blue Rocks have scored five or more runs in five straight games after scoring four runs or less in 15 of their previous 16 games. Over the current five-game stretch, the Blue Rocks have outscored the opposition, 35-23.
WHO'S HOT!: Chad Spann has hit safely in his last seven games, including four multi-hit games. Spann has 11 hits over his last 22 at-bats with six extra-base hits and seven RBI.
WHO'S NOT!: Brant Ust went 1-for-3 last night and has 10 hits in his last 60 atbats.
CLOSE AFFAIRS: The Blue Rocks have had 16 of their last 22 games decided by two runs or less. Over the first 62 games of the season, the Blue Rocks have had 42 of their games decided by three runs or less.
THE LINEUP: The Blue Rocks used their 60th different lineup of the season last night. Over their first 62 games of the season, the Rocks have used the same lineup in back-to-back games only twice.
A LOOK AHEAD: The Blue Rocks continue their seven-game road trip with the first of four against Potomac tomorrow night. Wilmington hosts the Warthogs for a three-game series to wrap up the first half next weekend at Frawley.

WHAT'S ON TAP?: The Blue Rocks and Warthogs conclude their three-game series this afternoon at Ernie Shore Field. Andrew Dobies takes the ball for his second start with the Blue Rocks and first against Winston-Salem. Dobies went 5-3 with a 3.59 ERA in 10 starts with Single-A Greenville (SAL) prior to his promotion. Ryan Rodriguez goes to the mound in today's finale for Winston- Salem. Rodriguez makes his 12th start of the season and his first start of the year against the Blue Rocks. Rodriguez, 20, was selected in the fourth round of the 2002 June draft by Chicago.
Wilmington vs. Kinston Notes
IT'S BEEN AWHILE: The Blue Rocks and the Warthogs are meeting for the first time since the last weekend in the month of April. The two clubs began a stretch of playing nine times over a 16-day period on Friday night.
BOMB SQUAD: The Warthogs have the top three home run hitters in the Carolina League. Leo Daigle (19), Tom Collaro (15) and Noah Hall (12) have combined to out-homer the entire Blue Rocks ball club, 46-34. As a team, Winston-Salem has clubbed 94 roundtrippers this season, including nine over the last two games and 14 in five games this season against the Blue Rocks.
WHERE'S THE PITCHING?: The Blue Rocks and Warthogs have combined for 37 runs and 49 hits over the first two games of the current series. The Blue Rocks have hit five home runs and the pitching staff has allowed nine home runs over the first two games.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Blue Rocks have compiled a 127-117 record against the Hogs, dating back to 1993. The Blue Rocks are 70-53 against the Indians in Wilmington and 57-62 against Winston- Salem at Ernie Shore Field.
THIS DATE IN BLUE ROCKS HISTORY
June 12, 1996: The Rocks took two out of three games in Durham with a 6-1 win over the Bulls. Jimmie Byington had three RBI and Brian Teeters had two RBI as Matt Saier won his fourth game of the season. June 12, 1997: The Prince William Cannons doubled up the Blue Rocks as Stacy Kleiner went 4-for-4, including a double and a home run to help the Cannons post a 10-5 win. Carlos Febles had two doubles while Mark Quinn had a double and four RBI on the night.
June 12, 2001--- Delvis Lantigua tosses a seven-inning, two-hit, complete- game against the Blue Rocks as the Warthogs pound Wilmington, 11-0 in the front end of a twinbill. Lantigua walks six, hits a batter, and strikes out four in picking up his fifth win of the year. Robert Muro goes 2-for-3 with a two-run double and three-run homer in the victory. He drives in his sixth run of the night after being hit by a pitch by Mark Newell with the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Cary Ammons allows six earned runs on six hits and falls to 2-6 for the Blue Rocks. Mark Newell allows three earned runs in the sixth inning, facing five batters and allowing four walks and a hit batsman. Corey Hart makes his first of three appearances of the season on the mound for Wilmington and retires all three batters that he faces in the sixth inning. The Blue Rocks rebound and defeat Winston-Salem in the nightcap, 7-2 and Jason Gilfillan earns the win in relief of starter Carlos Pichardo. Gilfillan fans six batters, including the final three of the game in the seventh inning, over 3.1 innings of work.
ON THE FARM WITH THE BOSTON RED SOX SATURDAY'S RESULTS
Pawtucket (IL): The Paw Sox ended a four-game losing streak with a 9-1 win at Columbus against the Clippers. Justin Sherrod hit a home run and knocked in four and Dave Berg knocked in three in the win. Abe Alvarez (6-2) won his fourth straight decision. (Record: 32-30)
Portland (EL): The Bowie Bay Sox scored a run in the 14th inning and defeated the Sea Dogs, 2-1, on Saturday night. The Bay Sox have won the first two games of the series with Portland. Kenny Perez had three hits in the loss. Richard Stahl, who began the season with the Frederick Keys tossed five innings of three-hit shutout baseball for Bowie. (Record: 30-25)
Greenville (SAL): Greenville scored six runs in the fourth inning and went on to win their eighth in a row with a 12-6 win over the Ashville Tourists on Saturday. Salvador Paniagua went 3-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI and three scored in the win (Record: 32-29)
The four clubs currently playing in the Red Sox minor league system have combined for a 122-118 record (.508) in 2005.
