Blue Rocks announce 2005 Carolina League schedule

Wilmington, DE--- The Wilmington Blue Rocks have released their schedule for the 2005 Carolina League season, their 13th season in the Carolina League and first as an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The Blue Rocks open up the season on the road for the second straight year and for the sixth time in franchise history. The Blue Rocks will also be at home on Independence Day, July 4, as well as Labor Day for the second straight year.

The Blue Rocks will open the 2005 Carolina League season with an eight-game road trip, beginning with a four-game series at Myrtle Beach (Atlanta), on Thursday, April 7. The Rocks conclude their eight-game trip with four games in Kinston (Cleveland) against the 2004 Carolina League champions before returning to Frawley Stadium for the home opener on Friday, April 15 versus the Salem Avalanche (Houston) at 7:05 p.m.

The Rocks will play eight games at home during the opening month of the season. The Rocks play host to 15 games during the month of May, 14 games in June, 17 games in July, 13 in August and three in September.

Wilmington will host the Salem Avalanche at home on Monday, July 4 at 4:05 p.m. It marks the second straight season and the third time since 1998 that the Blue Rocks will be at home on the Fourth of July holiday.

The Blue Rocks will have several starting time changes for 2005. All Friday home games will begin at 7:05 p.m. In April and May, games scheduled on Monday-Thursday will begin at 6:35 p.m. (exception of Wednesday, May 25 at 11:05 a.m.). Start times for games on Monday through Thursday will be at 7:05 p.m. after May (unless otherwise stated). Saturday game times will be at a the new time of 6:05 p.m. (exception of Saturday, April 16 at 4:05 p.m.). Sunday game times will remain unchanged from the previous season with the first pitch being thrown at 1:35 p.m. (exception of Sunday, July 3 at 6:05 p.m.).

The Carolina League will meet the California League for the 2005 All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 28 at Frederick's Harry Grove Stadium. The all-star break will be from June 27-29.

The Blue Rocks will have nine fireworks shows during the course of the regular season (Saturday, April 30; Friday, June 3; Wednesday, June 22; Saturday, July 2; Sunday, July 3; Monday, July 4 –Fireworks on the Riverfront by city of Wilmington; Thursday, July 28; Wednesday, August 10; Friday August 19; and Saturday, September 3).
