Blue Jays to Host Pitch, Hit and Run
April 9, 2009 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
Dunedin, FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays will host "Pitch, Hit and Run" presented by Aquafina at Dunedin Stadium on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. before the Blue Jays take on the Brevard County Manatees at 7 p.m later on that evening.
"Pitch, Hit and Run" is a competition for kids aged 7-14 intended to encourage youth participation and emphasize the "fun" element of baseball competition. There is no registration for this event, meaning every boy and girl can be a part of three fundamental aspects of baseball: pitching, hitting and running.
Here is how the three parts of the competition break down:
Pitch - The "Pitch" part of the program will test how accurately a competitor can throw strikes from 45 feet away as designated by the "Strike Zone" target.
Hit - The "Hit" portion will be set up on a stationary tee at home plate, as competitors will hit to dead center field to see who hits it the farthest and who is most accurate.
Run - The "Run" portion of the program will measure how fast a competitor can run from second base, around third base and finally to home plate.
There are four age groups for the competition: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Boys and girls will compete together, and age is determined by setting birthdays to July 17, 2009.
This is the first of four levels of competition, which see kids compete at the local level. Winners at the local level will move on to the sectional competition, followed by the Team Championship (as designated by the local Major League Ballpark) and the National Finals, which will take place at the 2009 All-Star Game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
To enter the competition, a copy of the competitor's birth certificate is necessary for age verification. A registration form must also be signed. Registration will start at 12:30 p.m. at Dunedin Stadium. For more information, please contact Jeff Probst by calling (727) 738-7012.
