Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
Dunedin, FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays, in association with the American Cancer Society, will host "Fight For A Cure" at Dunedin Stadium on Saturday, August 21 when they take on the Clearwater Threshers at 7 p.m.
Players will wear special purple jerseys during that night's game to commemorate the event, and each player will have a patch on his sleeve in honor or in memory of someone who is battling or has battled cancer.
Each player will be called to the plate by the stadium PA announcer along with the name of the person they are playing for. There will also be a pre-game ceremony to announce the players, along with a Survivor Lap around the field in honor of those afflicted with cancer.
FOX-13 TV's Charley Belcher will be the emcee for the entire night's events. Belcher has been a big supporter of the fight for cancer research after her daughter, Lindsey Rose, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007.
The Blue Jays will also hold a silent auction of baseball memorabilia to help benefit the ACS, and some of the purple jerseys worn by the players will be available to bid on.
After the game, there will be a presentation of the purple jerseys and players will be able to sign the jerseys and talk to the fans.
The game will begin at 7 p.m. with the gates to Dunedin Stadium opening at 6 p.m. The Survivor Lap will start at 6:30 p.m. and the special pre-game introductions will begin at 6:45 p.m.
Tickets for the event are $6 for general admission and can be purchased at the Dunedin Stadium box office on game days or at the main offices of the Blue Jays at 373 Douglas Ave. Tickets can also be purchased by calling (727) 733-0429.
