Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Melbourne, Florida â The Brevard Blue Ducks released their 2003 season schedule today that will see them play 30 USBL games from April through June.
The defending USBL Eastern Conference champions will play their first game of the season at their new home in the Clemente Center at Florida Tech, in Melbourne on Saturday, April 19th, against the Texas Rim Rockers, who are coached by former Houston Rocket, Robert Reid. Texas joins the Westchester Wildfire as the newest teams in a league that will begin its 18th season this summer.
The Blue Ducks, who played their inaugural season at Bayside High School in Palm Bay, are excited about the move to the Clemente Center. Commented Mike Richman, Ducks owner, "We are happy to be at this beautiful facility on the campus of Florida Tech. I think it will make a great venue for us and provide an atmosphere of enjoyment for our fans. Aside from a top level of basketball, our fans can look forward to more music, more entertainment, more games and just more fun overall. We can insure our fans a visit to a Blue Ducks game will be an experience."
"We are also working on pre-season, mid-season and post-season events that we can hold at the Clemente Center that will allow our fans to come in and have fun, spend some time with the team and meet the players. And of course, team appearances that can be made between games during our homestands. We will be very active in our community once again, especially where it concerns our youth and our county's many charitable organizations."
All 15 home games will begin at 7:00PM with the exception of Sunday games, which will begin at 5:00PM. "We are very happy with our schedule," commented Richman, noting that he had 12 of his 15 games falling on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, with one Monday game landing on Memorial Day. "It's a favorable schedule, especially when you compare it against last year's. But it's not all a bed of roses. It's got some tough spots. After starting out our season with 3 games in one week at home, we hit the road against two very tough teams, Pennsylvania and Adirondack, and play each of them twice, four nights in a row. If that weren't bad enough. We play Adirondack first, have to drive 200 miles down to play Pennsylvania back to back and then have to turn around and drive the 200 miles back up to Glens Falls to play Adirondack again. As they usually are in the USBL, road trips can really knock you around."
"One highlight of the season is that we get to play Darryl âChocolate Thunder' Dawkins and the Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs three times at home this year. The first â back to back games May 10th and 11th, followed by a contest on June 13th that will be our last home game of the season."
Just like last year, Brevard will end its season on the road making it that much tougher to gain a favorable position in the playoff picture. "At least it's only 4 games up in the northeast over 6 days this year to end the season. Last year was a killer with a 10-day road trip out to the Midwest." The Ducks then return home to prepare for the post-season tournament to be held June 27-29th which will take them back out the Midwest again, this time to Dodge City, KS.
Individual game tickets are on sale now. Tickets range from $8.00 for mezzanine to $25.00 for new courtside reserved seats. General floor level seating will remain at $12.50.
Fans can call the Blue Ducks directly at (321) 751-BLUE or visit their website at www.BrevardBlueDucks.com for tickets. Ticket order forms will also be available at the Clemente Center.
