Blue Ducks announce 2003 coaching staff

Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Melbourne, Florida â Derek Howard, who served as an assistant to Harvey Grant last year has been appointed head coach of the Brevard Blue Ducks. He will be assisted by John Whitley and Dennis Scott. "Derek did an outstanding job for us last year," commented Richman. He helped put together our tryout camp, picked our players for last year's college draft and drew up the majority of our offensive plays. No one else really knows our players and organization as well as Derek."
"I am very happy to be returning to Brevard and am grateful for being given the opportunity to coach the Blue Ducks," said Howard. "We had a very talented team last year. My job is to put together a team that's as good or better then the one we had last season. Between myself, John, Dennis Scott, Artis Gilmore, Danny Schayes and possibly Gerald Wilkins, we should have enough experience to put together a very good team."
After Brevard finished its inaugural season last summer, Derek went to another basketball minor league, the XBA, where he took over as head coach of the Wilmington Wave Rockers, a last place team that he transformed into a winner, taking them all the way to the league title game. John Whitley served as his assistant.
A Brevard native, Howard currently lives in Kansas City, but will be returning to Brevard in March and will stay through the end of the season.
