Blue Crabs Sign on Vaughn

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

(Waldorf, Md.) - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have announced their first outfield signing of the 2019 season with the return of Cory Vaughn.

For the third straight season, Vaughn's exciting style of play will ignite Regency Furniture Stadium every time he steps on the field. His monstrous power puts fear in the eyes of his Atlantic League foes and provides a jolt of energy for the fans. After hitting 13 home runs in 2017, Vaughn's 18 blasts in 2018 were good for fourth-most in the Atlantic League.

Vaughn's speed that accompanies his power is a rare commodity in the game of baseball. This duo has been pivotal in the Blue Crabs success in his two seasons in Southern Maryland. The 6-3 outfielder is the only player in the Atlantic League to post double-digit home runs, double-digit stolen bases, and at least five sacrifice flies in each of the last two seasons.

The son of former MLB All-Star Greg Vaughn, Cory began his professional career with the New York Mets when he was drafted in the 4th round of the 2010 June Amateur Draft. The west coast native moved east to play six seasons in the Mets organization. He then played one season in the Canadian-American Association, and stuck around the east coast to join the Blue Crabs. Prior to being drafted, Baseball America named Vaughn as the top prospect in the Northwoods League, a highly touted collegiate prospect league.

"I'm really looking forward to the season, we've got a great staff and great players around us," said Vaughn. "I think we're going to have a really good year, and I couldn't be more excited."

The team opens the 2019 season on May 3rd at home against the Lancaster Barnstormers. To save your seat at the ballpark for the upcoming season and other team news, visit www.somdbluecrabs.com or call 301-638-9788.
