Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Waldorf, MD) The game separated the Blue Crabs from first place in the North Division in the second half. The Crabs had won five straight games and were trying to build their longest of the 2023 season.
Ian Kahaloa went three scoreless until Mike Martinez hooked a ball over first base down the line to score Zander Wiel from first. The Blue Crabs tied the game with an RBI single for Philip Caulfield.
With the bases loaded, Isaias Quiroz walked to force home a run, and the Crabs had their first lead of the game at 2-1. The top of the seventh was a rally for the Rockers; Diego Goris doubled on a ball that bounced off Braxton Lee in right field and slowed down in the ally. He would score on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Grotjohn, and Ben Aklinski gave them the lead with an RBI single.
The bullpen for High Point shut down the Blue Crabs as the last four pitchers combined for five innings, allowed one hit, no runs, and struck out four. Cam Bedrosian locked up the save, and the Blue Crabs winning streak ended. Final tally, 3-2.
Southern Maryland goes to 31-24; the Lancaster loss keeps the Crabs within striking distance, still down to 0.5 game. The second matchup is on Saturday and is the Field of Dreams game at Regency Furniture; Spencer Johnston will go for the Crabs at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are available for the game and FloBaseball will have the live broadcast.
