Blowfish Win Third Straight

The Columbia Blowfish (8-12; 17-31) won their third consecutive game on Sunday night, beating the Fayetteville SwampDogs (10-9; 27-20) 10-6 at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

The Blowfish got off to a fast start, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Reggie Weatherford and Tyler Jackson scored on an error by SwampDogs' third baseman Brian Yeung to take a 2-0 lead.

The SwampDogs countered in the bottom of the first inning, as Cody Hudson scored on a RBI groundout by John Hogan, cutting the Blowfish lead to 2-1.

The Blowfish extended the lead in the top of the second inning. Zach Smith hit his 11th home run of the season off SwampDogs' starting pitcher Sean Tracy, scoring Weatherford and DeMontez Jones, giving the Blowfish a 5-1 lead.

Columbia's offense kept rolling in the top of the fourth inning, scoring three more runs and knocking Tracy out of the game. Smith picked up his fourth RBI of the night, driving in Dedric Mingo on a single. Tyler Jackson followed by driving in Weatherford on an error by SwampDogs' pitcher Mike Hebert. Brison Celek then hit a RBI single to score Smith, giving the Blowfish an 8-1 lead.

Tracy (0-2) gave up six runs and walked four batters in just three and one-third innings.

Blowfish starting pitcher Patrick Ludwig pitched his best in the bottom of the fifth inning. The SwampDogs loaded the bases, and scored a run on an error by Carlos Santana. Ludwig worked out of the jam, getting Danny Gesick to ground into a fielder's choice, leaving the bases loaded.

Ludwig (3-5) gave up just two runs on four hits in five innings to pick up the victory, leaving the game with an 8-2 lead.

The Blowfish added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning on Carlos Santana's third home run of the season, off Hebert, extending the Blowfish lead to 10-2.

The SwampDogs made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth inning. Blowfish reliever Alex Brooks gave up four runs, surrendering two runs by hitting Andrew Alford and walking John Hogan with the bases loaded, cutting the Blowfish lead to 10-6.

Carlos Santana came in from third base to retire Dylan Brown and Yeung to end the game.

The Blowfish and SwampDogs finish off the season series Monday night in Columbia, S.C. at Capital City Stadium.
