Blowfish Unveil 2020 Themed Jersey

June 2, 2020 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release

Team Blowfish 2020 will take the field on July, 1st. The special themed jerseys they will don are now being revealed for the first time.

"Team Blowfish 2020 was originally set to honor baseball's return to the Summer Olympics in 2020," Blowfish Co-Owner Bill Shanahan stated. "However, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Team Blowfish will honor our National Pastime's return return to American life!"

The jerseys, which made their original debut at the beginning of 2020, have undergone a few changes since the beginning of the pandemic. On the back of the jersey, there is now a globe with the words "One Team-One Dream" which symbolizes unity around the world.

"One Team-One Dream has been our team motto for the better part of three years," said Shanahan. "But as a country, and world, we are now united to fight this pandemic and return to the way of life that we have known...One Team-One Dream."

Carolina Comfort is once again our presenting sponsor for the themed jerseys. Owner/CEO Rich Mitchell (left) and Cole Mitchell (right) sporting the new Blowfish USA jersey.

"We are proud to continue to support our community in Lexington County through our partnership with the Blowfish," President/CEO of Carolina Comfort Rich Mitchell said. "We've been partnering with the Blowfish on the special themed jerseys since the beginning and look forward to another great season in 2020."

As has been in the past, these jerseys will be auctioned off during a season-long online auction and proceeds will benefit the Lexington 4H clubs.

"Last year was fantastic," Steven Long stated. "It really gave us the chance to show the Lexington County community how prominent agriculture still is here."

The Lexington County Farm Bureau works with the Clemson Extension in Lexington County, as well as local farmers, to continue to educate the public and deepen the ties between agriculture and life in Lexington County.

"Lexington County Farm Bureau is a non-profit organization as well and we're always looking for ways to give back to the community. We've been working with 4H for many years and when the opportunity came to auction these jerseys off, and give that money to an important cause we quickly realized that we wanted to reach out to the 4H here in Lexington County."

New Lexington County 4H agent Erika Jones also spoke with us about 4H and the exciting developments surrounding the themed jersey.

"4H is a youth development organization," 4H agent Erika Jones stated. "We encourage positive relationships not only between youth and other youth but also youth and positive adult mentors."

4H is the largest youth development organization in the country and within Lexington County, it operates through community clubs, after school enrichment programs, after school clubs and summer day camps. Erika, a graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School returns to Lexington County after spending the past five years in the Pee-Dee.

"It's really exciting to be back," Jones said smiling. "I still feel pretty connected here...and it feels really good to get to give back in the county that gave so much to me."
