
Blowfish Take Double Header from Gastonia

COLUMBIA, S.C.- On Thursday evening the (1-0) Blowfish traveled down to take on the (0-1) Gastonia Grizzlies at Capital City Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.
The Blowfish took both games that they played Thursday evening, stretching into the early morning of Friday as weather pushed the games back by an hour.
In game one early in the second inning Blowfish catcher Dylan Kelly sent his 1-0 pitch deep into right-center over the wall for a solo shot to put Columbia ahead heading into the top of the third.
The Blowfish would tally two more runs in the bottom of the third off of Gastonia starter Griffon Goodrich (Missouri), who picked up the loss bringing him to (0-2) on the season.
The starter for game one of the night for the Blowfish was right-hander, Cord Cockrell (Lousiana-Lafayette), who picked up the win bringing him to (3-0) on the season. Columbia would go on to win game one of the double header 3-to-2 over the Gastonia Grizzlies.
After the "Patriotic Concert in the Sky," game two of the night would get underway as Columbia starter, right-hander Hayden McCutcheon (College of Charleston) would get the win, tossing five innings giving up only two runs off of six hits, no walks, and four strikeouts. Zach Russell-Meyers would came on in relief in the top half of the sixth, pitching two innings, giving up one run off of two hits, no walks, and one strike out. Russell-Meyers picked up the save.
The starter for Gastonia in game two was right-hander Brad Fisher (Oral Roberts), who threw just 2.2 innings giving up four runs, three earned, off of three hits, four walks, and two strikeouts. Fisher picked up the loss bringing him to (0-1) on the season.
The Blowfish would break things apart in the bottom half of the third inning scoring four runs, and three runs in the sixth.
Columbia would go on to beat Gastonia in game two by a score of 7-to-3 to take both games of the double header.
The Blowfish are now (3-0) on the season sitting in first place in the Western Standings of the Coastal Plain League.
The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Friday night July 5th hosting the Forest City Owls with first pitch set for 7:05pm. Gates open at 6:00pm. Join us after the game for Independence Fireworks at Capital City Stadium!
The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
