Lexington County Blowfish News Release
FAYETEVILLE, N.C.- On a warm but relaxing night the (12-6) second half Columbia Blowfish traveled up north to take on the (15-8) second half Wilmington Sharks at Legion Stadium Thursday night.
It was an absolute fantastic ballgame as both starting pitchers were dominant through the seventh inning.
Columbia's starter, Josh Knab (South Carolina) had a no hitter through five and a third.
The Sharks were the first ones to put runs on the board as it came at a convenient time as they scored two in the bottom of the eighth. Derek Gibson (Southeast Missouri State) got on with a one out bunt, later stealing second. With two away, Chase Rader (Coffeyville C.C.) was hit by a pitch. The next Wilmington batter, Adam Walton (Illinois), singled to right center scoring Gibson from second, advancing Rader to third. With runners on the corners, Walton stole second as Rader scored on the throw down to second.
Heading in to the top of the ninth with the Blowfish trailing 2-to-0, Columbia would scratch off the deficit by one, but would fall short to the Swampdogs by a score of 2-to-1.
Starter for the Blowfish Thursday night was right-hander, Josh Knab. Knab threw seven and two thirds innings, giving up two runs off of three hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Evan Raynor (Florence Darlington Tech) came in relief for just a third of an inning, gave up no runs, no hits, no walks, and one strikeout. Knab picked up the loss moving him to (0-2) on the season.
Starter for Fayetteville was left-hander, Kevin Archbold (Albany), tossing eight and two thirds innings, giving up one run off of five hits, three walks, and nine strikeouts. Travis Hissong (Wright State), threw for the final out of the evening as he struck out Blowfish shortstop Cody Smith (Spartanburg Methodist). Archbold picked up the win improving him to (2-2) on the season. Hissong picked up his sixth save.
The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Saturday August 3rd, hosting the Edenton Steamers with first pitch set for 7:05pm. It's play catch with the Blowfish night, as well as South Carolina State Employee Appreciation Night, and a reunion for all of the Capital City Bombers, Columbia Mets, and Columbia Reds! So come on out and enjoy a great night of baseball, memories, and as always a wonderful family environment!
The Blowfish are now (12-7) in the second half of the season sitting in first place of the Western Standings of the Coastal Plain League.
