Fayetteville, N.C. (June 27, 2015) -- An early run in the top of the first inning was all the Lexington County Blowfish needed in a 4-0 victory over the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Saturday night.

During this extended winning streak, the Blowfish have won four games in a row, seven of the last eight games, and ten of the last twelve to pull into one of the top spots in the West with one game to go in the first half of the season.

J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion) scored on a double steal in the first inning. Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina) broke for second base and was caught stealing--however, in that short timespan, Crowe sprinted home to give the Blowfish the 1-0 lead.

That scoring opportunity formed out of plate discipline. Fayetteville starter Zach Wimmer walked four consecutive batters. Crowe reached third base due to two wild pitches.

Fayetteville stranded eight runners on base. They would strand multiple runners in scoring position with less than two outs. Mike Deese was stranded by Charlie Barnes (Clemson) by forcing Austin Upshaw and Brandon Boggetto to fly out, and Cameron Whitehead to strike out.

Deese would also be stranded in the eighth inning. Avery Greer (University of North Georgia), fresh off of an appearance in the Coastal Plain League exhibition vs. Team USA, worked around two infield hits to strand two in scoring position and keep Fayetteville off the board.

Trevor Bradley (USC-Aiken) struck out five more in his three strong innings of work. Erik Davis (USC-Aiken) tossed a 1-2-3 ninth frame to seal the deal.

Dalton Duty (University of Central Florida) cemented the victory, blasting a two-run home run over the right field scoreboard in the ninth inning. Bennette Hill (Shelton State) scored on that play, and added his first RBI as a member of the Blowfish with an RBI single in the sixth inning.

Hill hit a sharp grounder that ticked off of the glove of second baseman Boggetto, and scored Sly Edwards (Charleston Southern) from second base.

Both teams had to slog through almost an hour of two separate delays. Thunderstorms rolled through early, and a power outage dimmed the left field lights.

The first half of the season will end on Monday. The Lexington County Blowfish will take on the Forest City Owls at McNair Field starting at 7:05 p.m. Join the live broadcast on Z93.1 FM The Lake starting at 6:50.

The Blowfish will return to Lexington County Baseball Stadium on Tuesday to face Gastonia. Dog Day Tuesday, presented by MetLife, encourages fans to bring their dogs, on a leash, to enjoy the night out at the ballpark. Tickets are still available by calling the box office at 803-254-FISH, online at blowfishbaseball.com, and at Blowfish on Main (101 East Main Street, Lexington, South Carolina).
