Lexington County Blowfish News Release

Wilmington, N.C. (July 15, 2015) -- The Lexington County Blowfish knew they had to get a critical win on the road. After rallying back from a 3-1 deficit, surviving late dramatics, they picked one up over the Wilmington Sharks, 5-3.

J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion) paved the way for the Blowfish with a bevy of two-out knocks. He punched home Keenan Innis (Georgia Tech) on two separate occasions. Crowe also drove in Gene Cone (University of South Carolina), and scored on a hit by Bennette Hill (Shelton State) with two outs.

The Blowfish received outstanding pitching on Wednesday. While Heath Holder (Georgia) did not pick up a decision for the the fifth time this season, he provided five innings of three-hit ball.

Trevor Bradley (USC-Aiken) continued his all-star form in relief of Holder. He allowed three hits over his four innings of work, dodging two jams with nothing across.

Bradley loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning. Gavin Stupienski singled, and he beaned Kyle Nowlin and Jose Hernandez back-to-back.

The junior struck out consecutive batters, and forced a long fly-out off the bat of Andrew Austin in which Dalton Duty (University of Central Florida) dashed all the way back to the wall to end the inning with no damage. A 1-2-3 ninth inning closed Wilmington out for good.

In total, Bradley added five to his league-leading strikeout total of 57.

The Blowfish rallied back down 3-1 following a two-run home run by Joseph Roberts in the fourth. The top of the fifth started with two quick outs, and that quickly, two quick runs across.

They eventually took the 4-3 lead when Crowe plated Cone. Danny Edgeworth (Mercer University) would deliver the final strike by singling home Connor Owings (Coastal Carolina).

This game could have been made easier had Lexington County not stranded 11 men on base throughout the night. Specifically, two bases-loaded opportunities went by the wayside, but in the end, it mattered little.

The visitors provided five runs on eleven hits. Blowfish pitching allowed six hits, and stranded eight Sharks runners.

Up next on the road trip is a matchup with the Morehead City Marlins on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Catch all the action starting at 6:50 on Z93.1 FM The Lake.
