Blowfish Game Suspended Due to Inclement Weather
June 9, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Florence, S.C. (June 9, 2015) - The Lexington County Blowfish led the Florence RedWolves 2-0 with two outs in the top of the fourth inning. A thunderstorm initiated a rain delay lasting two hours, forcing the game to be suspended and resumed on June 22 as part of a doubleheader.
The Blowfish hit Florence starter Daniel Barfield early, rallying with two outs in the top of the first inning. Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina) walked, and Howard Joe (Mercer) singled up the middle. Trevor Bradley (USC-Aiken) followed up and smoked a 2-0 pitch into center field, scoring two runs, and pacing the Blowfish to the lead.
Canaan Cropper (University of South Carolina) got the start for Lexington County. He worked out of a jam in the second inning when Matt Williams singled, Nathan Wierzgac was hit by a pitch, and Ray Lanners walked, loading the bases.
As with the last time Florence accomplished the feat on Monday, it ended up as the same result this time as well. Cropper retired the next two batters to end the threat.
In the fourth inning, Stokes flew out to right, and Joe struck out swinging. Bradley stepped to home plate when lightning struck to the north, starting the rain delay. The game was officially called at 9:30 p.m. due to inclement weather.
Up next for the Blowfish is a matchup with the High Point-Thomasville HiToms on Wednesday night starting at 7:05 p.m. A live broadcast is available on Z93.1 FM The Lake, and on the Blowfish Baseball mobile app starting at 6:50 p.m.
The Blowfish will return home on Saturday, hosting the Forest City Owls at Lexington County Baseball Stadium for a 7:05 p.m. start. Tickets are now available for "Frozen Night, Part 2." Fans of all ages are encouraged to enjoy a spectacular musical tribute to the Disney movie
