
Blowfish Fall to Sharks 5-4, in Extras

WILMINGTON, N.C.- The Columbia Blowfish traveled up north to take on the Wilmington Sharks at Legion Field Thursday night.
The Blowfish started off the scoring early in the first inning, scoring two runs off of three doubles, Eros Modena (Bethune-Cookman), Allen Staton (North Carolina A&T), and David Houser (Tennessee).
The Sharks would answer back in the bottom half of the fifth with three runs off of a three run home run off the bat of Zach Stephens (Tennessee Tech).
The Blowfish were down 4-to-3 heading into the top of the ninth inning, until Erik Barber (UCF), who came in to pinch hit for Jake Welch (Bethune-Cookman), tied up the game with a solo shot to left field.
The action would stay quiet through the top of the eleventh, though in the sharks bottom of the inning, they would had a lead off double from Zach MacAneney (UNC-Greensboro), who then would be bunted over to third by Alex Freedman (Lynn). On the ensuing play, Cody Dolan (Winthrop) would win the game on a walk off single off a hit through the left side passed the third baseman, Josh Sealy (North Greenvile).
The starting pitcher for the Blowfish Thursday night was right-hander Stuart Pound (USC Beaufort), who threw five innings giving up three runs, off of four hits, issued three walks, and two strikeouts. Cord Cockrell (Louisiana-Lafayette), would come on for the Blowfish in late relief, who will pick up his first loss of the season, moving him to (2-1).
The starter for the Sharks was left hander JW Gora (Tennessee Tech), who tossed 3.2 innings giving up two runs, off of four hits, issuing three walks, and seven strikeouts.
The Blowfish are now (12-9) on the season and are sitting in third place of the Western Standings.
The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Friday night June 21st hosting the Asheboro Copperheads. First pitch is set for 7:05pm, gates open at 6pm. It's also CRAFTY BEER NIGHT!
