Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Forest City, N.C. (July 18, 2015) -- The Lexington County Blowfish were swept by the Forest City Owls in a doubleheader on Saturday night by scores of 11-1 and 11-9 at McNair Field.
Down 1-0 on a fielder's choice by Dalton Duty (University of Central Florida) with the bases loaded, Forest City exploded offensively. They would tie the game at one an inning later, and then add seven runs in a nightmarish fourth inning that contained five hits and twelve Owls batters.
Forest City added three more runs in the fifth inning to etch their lead in stone.
Owls pitcher Reid Anderson shut the Blowfish down, allowing one run on two hits. Matt Maready and Spencer Henderson would enter in relief without a hit from the Blowfish.
Game two began with the Blowfish reeling, down 4-0 after the first inning, and needing to rally again to have a chance. The Blowfish would stage a couple of noticeable surges, including two pieces of contact from Danny Edgeworth (Mercer University).
Edgeworth knocked a two-run single in the fifth inning to score Sly Edwards (Charleston Southern) and Jared Williams (University of South Carolina), and a routine pop-up to left field in the sixth inning that was dropped by Weston Jackson cleared the bases with two outs, trimming Forest City's once extensive lead to a mere two runs.
That error was part of an impressive five-run inning for the Blowfish--an inning that lasted almost 45 minutes. All of it resulted due to one hit.
Deric Boone (Southern Union State) commenced a scoreless third inning in game two with a fantastic defensive play. Boone traveled up the middle on a hot shot, barehanded the ball, and threw out Brady Policelli by a step.
Henderson finished his night 3-for-8 at the plate, scoring four runs, and knocking in four more, across two games. He also pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out five batters. His appearance in game two, his second appearance all season, resulted in a save.
The Blowfish will have the day off on Sunday, and will return to action on Monday to face the Gastonia Grizzlies.
