Lexington County Blowfish News Release

COLUMBIA, S.C.- On a very humid Saturday night, the (3-0) Columbia Blowfish held host to the (0-1) Fayetteville Swampdogs at a soaked Capital City Stadium.

Rain pushed the game start time back to 7:40pm EST due to a small monsoon that dumped heavy rains on the field. Nonetheless the Columbia Blowfish staff got the field in playable conditions and the first pitch was dealt.

The starter for the Blowfish tonight was right-hander Jon Olczak (NC State), threw five shutout innings, only giving up three hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. Hunter Privette (South Carolina), came on in relief tossing three scoreless innings of his own, giving up one hit, one walk, and five strikeouts. Derrick Smith (College of Charleston) came on to relive Privette in the ninth, giving up one run off of one hit, one walk, and three strikeouts.

The Columbia offense woke up in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring a run off of Swampdog starter Ben Burns (Georgia State).

Later, in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Blowfish would pile six more runs onto the Swampdogs extending their lead 7-to-1 heading into the top of the ninth.

Fayetteville would put away the shutout scoring one run off the bat of Daniel Nevares (Binghampton).

The Blowfish are now (4-0) on the season sitting in first place in the Western Standings of the Coastal Plain League.

The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Tuesday night July 9th hosting the Forest City Owls with the first game of the double header, first pitch set for 6:05pm. Gates open at 5:00pm.
