Bloomington victorious over Port Huron
PORT HURON, Mich. - Bill Bagron scored the sixth hat trick in PrairieThunder history and goaltender Andrew Martin stopped 48 of 49 shots in his first start to lead Bloomington to a 5-1 International Hockey League victory over Port Huron before 1,650 people Saturday at McMorran Arena.
The victory moved the PrairieThunder record to 6-2-0-1 and extended its unbeaten streak to six games. Bloomington remained in first place with 13 points. Port Huron dropped to 5-2 (10 points).
Bloomington returns to action Sunday with a 4 p.m. contest at Muskegon.
Jamie Carroll got the PrairieThunder on the scoreboard first with a goal off assists from Ryan Finnerty and Robin Gomez five minutes into the game. Bagron added his first of three goals with 59 seconds left in the first period on assists by Jon Booras and Brett Holmberg.
Bagron scored his second goal off an assist by Holmberg 47 seconds into the second period and his third goal three minutes. Craig Macdonald and Booras had assists on the power play effort.
Port Huron scored its only goal with 16:51 left in the game by Mike Kinnie with assists to Derek Patrosso and Kris Vernarsky. Booras then completed the PrairieThunder scoring with a goal at the 9:31 mark of the third period with assists to Bagron and Holmberg.
Martin earned his first victory of the season. He stopped all 24 shots he faced in the second period. The PrairieThunder was 1 for 3 on the power play, while Port Huron was unsuccessful in six attempts.
