Mallards Drop Overtime Decision to Muskegon
Moline, IL - The host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, Saturday night fell in overtime to the Muskegon Lumberjacks 4-3 as Tom Galvin scored the winning goal at 3:24 of sudden death.
The Mallards, who did earn one point for the overtime loss battled from behind throughout the night and twice tied the score in the third period- the second time with 14 seconds left in regulation when Domenic Maiani scored from the doorstep to knot the score at three apiece.
At 13:43 of the third the Flock had evened the score at three on Terry Harrison's long range drive only for the Lumberjacks to move in front 3-2 just under two minutes later while on the power play thanks to John DiPace's tip-in.
Mike Zbriger scored the Mallards' first of the game, banging the puck in from close range at 5:21 of the second period to cut in half what had been a 2-0 Muskegon lead.
The Lumberjacks grabbed that two goal edge early when Ryan Palmer and Robin Bouchard scored just 15 seconds apart in the first period.
