Bloomington closes out season 3-2 winners

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Jason Lepine scored his second shootout goal against Port Huron this season as the Bloomington PrairieThunder closed out its home season with a 3-2 International Hockey League victory before 3,570 people Friday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The victory moved the PrairieThunder record to 29-39-2-5 (65 points) ahead of the season finale Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Fort Wayne. Port Huron has a 44-21-6-4 mark (98 points).

Jeremy Tucker started the scoring with 14:36 remaining in the first period off assists by Jason Chafe and Paul Esdale. Corey Rutt tied the game for the PrairieThunder with 9:13 left in first period on assists by John Neal and Paul Holder.

The PrairieThunder gained a 2-1 lead with 4:16 left in the first period on a power play goal by Marty Standish with assists to Mike Kusy and Corey Rutt. Port Huron's Steve Rymsha tied the game with 12:03 remaining in the second period on an assist by Nick Lindberg.

Lepine scored as the third shooter in the shootout after Jan Jas and Jon Booras had missed. Jason Wolfe earned the win in goal by stopping 28 of 30 shots in regulation and overtime. Larry Sterling took the loss after yielding two goals on 47 shots.
