Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Sioux City, IA: The debut of the Green Bay Blizzard in the Indoor Football League did not disappoint. The Blizzard jumped out to an early 20-0 lead in the first quarter and held on to defeat the Sioux City Bandits 69-61. Green Bay received the opening kick and quarterback Jake Phillips went to work right away. On the second offensive play, Phillips hit wide receiver Arlandus Hood for a 31 yard touchdown pass. Tino Amancio tacked on the extra point and the Blizzard were out to a 7-0 lead. Phillips to Hood would become a common theme in this game. Phillips passed for 241 yards and eight touchdowns. Hood caught five of the touchdowns and finished with seven receptions for 166 yards. The Blizzard defense created two early turnovers that led to scores. On the Bandits second offensive series, Blizzard linebacker Tommy Phelps hit quarterback James McNear in the end zone and knocked the ball out of his hands. Phelps jumped on the ball for a touchdown and increased the Blizzard lead to 20-0. The Bandits got on the board with a 21 yard touchdown pass from McNear to T.J. Williams. The teams would battle back and forth for the remainder of the half and the Blizzard took a 48-28 lead into halftime. Twice in the third quarter Sioux City pulled within 13 points. Trailing 69-54 with 3:35 left in the game, the Bandits recovered an onside kick. McNear moved the Bandits down the field and hit Trae Johnson for a 11 yard touchdown to close the Blizzard lead to eight. The ensuing onside kick attempt was recovered by the Blizzard.
