Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Green Bay, WI - The Green Bay Blizzard (4-8) will end their three game road trip as the team heads to Cedar Rapids to take on the Cedar Rapids Titans (8-5) on Saturday June 8, 2013. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 P.M on Mediacom Field at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

This is the fifth game all-time between the two teams with the Blizzard holding a 3-1 lead and the team has never lost in Cedar Rapids in two previous trips. The Titans got their first taste of victory against the Blizzard in a 54-37 win in Green Bay on May 18, 2013.

The Titans have five former Blizzard players on their roster in RB LaRon Council, WR Desmond Tardy, WR Bryan Pray, LB Trevor Glomski and DL Richard Posey. Council, however, was placed on season-ending IR last week due to a torn Achilles.

Last week, QB Donovan Porterie helped the Blizzard score 20 points in the fourth quarter in Chicago, but it was not enough as the Blizzard fell 52-51 to the Slaughter. The loss gave the Blizzard their eighth loss of the season and officially eliminated the team from the playoff contention.

Offensively, the Blizzard rank first in the IFL in passing yards per game with 194.3 yards per game. The team also ranks sixth in the IFL in points per game with 43.6. The team has, however, averaged 56.1 points per game over the last six games since coach Chad Baldwin took over during mid-season WR Ryan Balentine ranks second in the IFL in receiving yards with 715. B.J Hill still leads the league in All-Purpose yards with 1,512. RB Lucien Walker also emerged as a threat last week as he caught six passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns.

The Blizzard defense is led by LB Derek Earls. Earls ranks seventh in the IFL with 76 tackles and he has also recovered two fumbles this season. The Blizzard defense ranks fourth in the IFL allowing 222.3 yards per game.

The Cedar Rapids Titans come into the game with a lot on the line. With a victory over the Blizzard, the Titans will secure their first ever playoff spot and punch their ticket to the IFL postseason.

The Titans are coming off a victory against the Wyoming Cavalry and their first game without the IFL's leading rusher in LaRon Council. RB Anthony Silvers stepped up as he recorded three rushing and two receiving touchdowns against the Cavalry.

The Titans rank first in the IFL in points per game averaging 53.5 and second in yards per game with 264.7 and are led by QB Colton Hansen. Hansen, who took over after QB Charles McCullum was placed on injured reserve, threw six touchdown passes vs. Wyoming last week. WR Bryan Pray has emerged as one of the go-to targets during the past several weeks as he has caught a touchdown pass in five consecutive games. WR Carl Sims leads the league in touchdown receptions with 20.

Cedar Rapids allows the fewest yards per game at 190.2. Former Blizzard LB Trevor Glomski leads the team in tackles with 87. DB T.J Simmons leads the team with five interceptions while DL Xzavie Jackson leads the IFL with 12 sacks.
