Wide receiver Lester Wells, fresh off a productive senior season at NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) program Central Arkansas University, has signed with the Green Bay Blizzard, first-year head coach and general manager Corey Roberson announced on Friday.
In addition, the Blizzard acquired defensive back Keith Trumps, a two-year indoor pro football veteran who previously played for Arizona, Cedar Rapids and Colorado.
Wells, 5-11 and 180 pounds, projects as a slot receiver with the Blizzard. In his final season at Central Arkansas, he grabbed 55 passes for 652 yards and four touchdowns, as well as rushing three times for 30 yards. Against Murray, he had nine catches for 158 yards. He also had 10 catches in a game, and five or more grabs in four other contests.
In his two years at Central Arkansas, he caught 82 balls for 986 yards and seven touchdowns. Prior to enrolling at Central Arkansas, Wells earned post-season honors after two productive seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Trumps, 6-1 and 200 pounds, played for four college programs, finishing with Saginaw Valley State in 2015. At a combine in early 2016, he ran a 4.52 electronic 40.
Last season while playing with Arizona and Cedar Rapids, Trumps recorded 46 tackles, 5 passes broken up, and 1 interception. Trumps IFL experience will be a welcomed addition to the Blizzard backfield this season.
Roberson will continue to build a roster of up to 40 players prior to training camp in February. That roster will be reduced to 25 players for the season opener.
