Blizzard Moves Up To Number Six In Weekly Coaches Poll

April 20, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2)
Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Since the start of the 2006 season, the Green Bay Blizzard has steadily climbed up the Weekly af2 Coaches Poll. After falling to the Albany Conquest in Week 1, the Blizzard has run off road wins against the Manchester Wolves and Quad City Steamwheelers, and their ranking has reflected their on-field success. The Blizzard entered the 2006 season ranked #7 in the preseason poll, and is currently ranked 6th in the af2, climbing two spots from their #8 spot last week.

The poll, completed by each team's coaching staff, serves as a "ranking system" of which teams are the best. Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification. However, the polls give fans an idea of which teams are the teams to beat, and how difficult their favorite team's schedule really is.

Tomorrow night, the Blizzard faces off against the #4-ranked Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. The Dawgz, sitting at a perfect 2-0, are looking to exact a measure of revenge against the Blizzard, who handed them a 71-53 defeat at the Resch Center in 2004. The matchup is the only meeting of teams ranked in the top 6, and the outcome will certainly affect next week's rankings.

The game against the Yard Dawgz will feature a special appearance by the Southern University Marching Band, who will perform the National Anthem before kickoff, and then again at halftime and after the game.
