Green Bay Blizzard News Release

A game that looked like a blowout after the first quarter turned into a close contest at the Resch Center, but the Green Bay Blizzard pulled off a 61-50 win versus the San Diego Strike Force.

Marquise Irvin got the scoring started with a 24-yard touchdown reception from Blizzard quarterback Ja'rome Johnson, who was injured shortly after and replaced by back-up QB Max Meylor.

Green Bay quickly made it 14-0 after Logan Justus's kick hit the uprights and Raheem Harvey recovered the ball in the endzone.

Steve Newbold and Meylor combined for two touchdowns in the final four minutes of the first quarter, giving the Blizzard a 27-0 lead.

San Diego got on the board early in the second quarter with a twoo-yard touchdown run by Travon Van, and Green Bay's running back Terrence Smith responded with an eight-yard rushing touchdown of his own.

Strike Force quarterback Nate Davis connected with Kentrez Bell on a 12-yard pass to close out the first half. Green Bay held a 21-point lead at halftime, 34-13.

Van, Smith, and Davis each ran in two-yard touchdowns throughout the third quarter, as San Diego slowly climbed their way back into the game.

A 25-yard rushing touchdown by Smith put the Blizzard up by 19 points, but the Strike Force answered with a Bell touchdown and Davis two-point conversion, making it an 11-point game.

Meylor showed off his versatility with a two-yard touchdown run, his third touchdown of the day. Carlos Thompson then caught a seven-yard pass from Davis, and another two-point conversion put San Diego behind only 10.

Smith ran in his fourth touchdown on the day in the final minute of the fourth quarter, and even with a Strike Force score ten seconds later, San Diego was unable to pull off the comeback victory.

With this win, Green Bay improved to 3-4 on the season and San Diego fell to 2-5.
