Green Bay Blizzard News Release

After a stellar performance last week against the Tri-Cities Fever, the Green Bay Blizzard is back in the af2 Coach's Poll. The Blizzard, currently ranked 13th, won their third straight game at US Cellular Field at the Resch Center. The win has also put the team in first place in the Midwest Division. The Blizzard returns home this Friday, May 18th, to take on their divisional-foe Cincinnati Jungle Kats where the team has yet to lose.

Who, Where, When:

Green Bay Blizzard (1-1 Midwest Division, 3-3 overall) host Midwest Division opponent, the Cincinnati Jungle Kats (1-2 Midwest Division, 1-5 overall). The Blizzard take on the Jungle Kats at 7:30 PM on Friday May, 18 at U.S. Cellular Field inside the Resch Center. Friday's game will feature an appearance by Green Bay Packer Head Coach Mike McCarthy as the team's honorary captain.

The game can be listened to live on WDUZ (107.5 FM) "The Fan" and will be rebroadcast throughout the week on Time Warner Cable's Wisconsin Sports Channel 32. Tickets are still available through the Resch Center Ticket Office; feel free to contact the Blizzard regarding group ticket prices or with any other questions at 920-405-1264.

All-time Series:

The Cincinnati Jungle Kats are one of nine expansion teams in the af2 in 2007 and one of four expansion teams the Blizzard face in the '07 regular season. The Blizzard look to get a win over the Jungle Kats in their first ever meeting, giving the Blizzard a 1-0 lead in the all-time series over a Midwest Division Opponent. Other expansion teams the Blizzard have faced thus far include the Fort Wayne Fusion and the Tri-Cities Fever. The Blizzard will also be facing expansion Mahoning Valley Thunder in June.

Jungle Kats Update:

The Cincinnati Jungle Kats have struggled thus far in 2007 dropping the first four games in the franchises history. The Jungle Kats first win did not come until May 5th against fellow expansion team, the Fort Wayne Fusion who they defeated at home by a close score of 35-32. Cincinnati looks to get their first road win in franchise history this week against the Blizzard. A win against the Blizzard would also give the Jungle Kats a chance to tie Fort Wayne for fourth in the Midwest Division. The Kats feel like things are starting to come together for their team as a few of their players are starting to step up on game day. Kats receiver Darin Graham is currently ranked eighth in the league in all-purpose yards with 1001 yards, and wide receiver/defensive back Demetrius McCray pulled down two interceptions last week, one of which he took back for a touchdown.

Blizzard Update:

While the Blizzard have struggled in 2007 on the road, failing to win a game, they seem to feel quite comfortable inside the Resch Center going 3-0 in their first three home games this year. If Green Bay continues their winning ways at home this weekend it will not only mark a 4-0 home record in 2007, it will actually mark their sixth straight home victory, a streak that dates back to July 28, 2006. Home or away, it has been the team's defense that the Blizzard have leaned on in 2007. In fact, the Blizzard defense is the best in the af2, ranking number one in every major defensive statistical category: Scoring Defense(33.5 points per game), Pass Defense(185 yards per game), Rushing Defense(10.5 yards per game), and Total Defense(195.5 yards per game). The players that have been stepping up for the Blizzard defense include Ronnie Amadi who ranks third in the league in passes defended with 17, Stephen Cason who ranks 16th in the league in tackles with 34.5, Donnie Amadi who ranks first in the league in fumbles forced with four, and Jason Hardee whose five sacks are good enough for seventh in the league. A win this Friday for the Blizzard would put them one game above .500 just before the halfway point in their regular season.
