Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay, WI - In a back and forth game, the Green Bay Blizzard couldn't outlast the Tri-Cities Fever, with 73-62loss Saturday night on Aurora BayCare Field at the Resch Center.
Under new Blizzard Head Coach Tommie Williams the Blizzard (0-7) were unable to slow Tri-Cities dynamic passing attack and dropped their first ever game against the Fever (2-5). The Blizzard now lead the all-time series two games to one.
In a game where the Blizzard scored a season high 62 points, their efforts fell short. For the second home game in a row, the 3,435 Blizzard fans had something to cheer about early. Within the first two minutes of the game QB Nate Wara steamrolled his way into the end-zone from 12 yards out.
Two minutes later, the Fever fought back with a rushing score of their own, courtesy of a 14-yard touchdown by Keithon Flemming. Scoring went back and forth for the majority of the first half, minus one drive that ended on what might have been Nate Wara's only mistake, a costly interception to Fever DB Lion Singleton.
The first half came to an end with back to back scoring plays by the Fever, the first of which was a 40 yard flawless pass from QB Houston Lillard to WR Oliver Young. The long touchdown was followed up a minute and a half later by a 33 yard Brady Beeson field goal.
The second half took off where the first half left off. The two teams again started trading punches. A receiving touchdown early in the third quarter to WR Harry Peoples started the back and forth scoring between the foes. On the Blizzard's first series in the second half, Nate Wara completed a 22-yard touchdown to WR Andre London. The third quarter ended with another rushing touchdown by Wara, this time taking it in from seven yards out.
In the final quarter, back-to-back touchdown passes from Houston Lillard sealed the fate of the Blizzard. After going down by 22 points, the home team could not recover. After a couple of failed on-side kick attempts, the final whistle sounded and the victors were not wearing green.
Blizzard QB Nate Wara tied the team's all-time single game rushing touchdown with five and added two more scores through the air. Wara finished the game with 119 yards rushing on 18 carries, a garish 6.6-yard average. His main target of the day was WR Donte Sawyer, who finished with 104 yards on 10 receptions.
Fever QB Houston Lillard completed 22 of 26 passes for 241 yards and seven touchdowns. WR Oliver Young led the team with five catches for 80 yards and one touchdown.
The Blizzard are on the road next week to face the Bemidji Axemen on April 26th. This will be the first of two straight games against Bemidji, the latter of which will take place at Aurora Baycare Field at the Resch Center on May 3rd, which is Bart Starr Bobblehead night.
