
Blitz-Week Kicks Off Inaugural Season

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 25, 2002) â The Bakersfield Blitz' inaugural season of arenafootball2 will kick off next week in the Centennial Garden with "Blitz-Week"; which is four days of events, capped off by an Arena Football pre-season game as the Georgia Force take on the Los Angeles Avengers.
"Blitz-Week is going to be a week of fun for everybody," said General Manager Brad Hoffman. "It's a chance for people to see what we're about. You can come to the Garden and see the field laid out, you can come watch your favorite high school players in one last game and then you can watch Arena Football at its best when Georgia and the Avengers play. We've got it all."
Blitz-Week activities will include a media flag-football game between city officials and members of the local media; Tag-A-Seat nights for people to purchase season tickets and for season ticket holders to pick up their season tickets; BlitzBowl I, the first-of-its-kind high school all-star game, will be played as East vs. West for bragging rights in Kern County; and Georgia takes on LA in an AFL exhibition pre-season game.
The schedule for Blitz-Week is as follows:
Monday, April 1 -
11 am â 12:30 pm.....Media Flag Football game
Tuesday, April 2 â
5:30 pm â 7:30 pm....Blitz practice in Garden
6 pm......................Tag-A-Seat night (open to public to purchase season tickets)
7:30 pm â 8:30 pm....Blitz Media Day (on the field in the Garden)
- Media is invited to meet the team, get interviews, pictures, video, etc.
8 pm......................BlitzBowl dinner banquet (in the Club Room in Centennial Garden)
Wednesday, April 3 â
4 â 6 pm.................Blitz practice in Garden
7:30 pm..................BlitzBowl I (High School All-Star Game)
Thursday, April 4 â
7:30 pm..................Georgia Force vs. LA Avengers (AFL Pre-season game)
The Bakersfield Blitz kicks off its season on April 6th at San Diego. The first home game is April 20th at the Centennial Garden against the Louisville Fire. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
More than two million fans have attended arenafootball2 games in the league's two-year history. In 2000, af2 began its inaugural season with 15 teams. The league expanded to 28 teams in 2001, making it the fastest single-league expansion in the history of sports.
