Bakersfield Blitz News Release

The Bakersfield Blitz return to action on Saturday, May 15th as they continue their homestand. Divisional rival San Diego comes to town for a 7:00pm start. That night features a Bakersfield arena football first, with a "Jersey Off Our Backs" raffle and charity auction. Sponsored by Real Rock 93.1 and Bright House Networks, the team will wear special Armed Forces Day American-themed jerseys. Five will be given away during the game and the rest will be auctioned off to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club of Bakersfield.

Last week

BYE WEEK

Bakersfield has two bye weeks during the 2004 regular season, the first of which was last week. Their next week off is Fourth of July weekend. Between now and then, four of their seven games will be at home.

In the huddle

· On the Local Front: QB Jeff Dover was assigned to the Blitz following the suspension of QB Mark Wilson for violation of team policy. Dover attended Highland High School and Bakersfield College, as well as Cal Poly.

· Bakersfield High Grad OS Steve Wofford was placed on the Short-Term Injured Reserve last week, and will miss at least this weekend's match against San Diego, maybe more. Wofford injured his right leg on the second series of the game on May 1st and did not return.

· While Wofford's injury was untimely for him, it was just what WR/DB Rennard Reynolds needed. The rookie from Alcorn State was immediately thrust into the offensive specialist role and flourished, catching 11 passes for 176 yards and four touchdowns.

· Despite having a week off, the Blitz defense improved their standing. In total defense (average points allowed per game), Bakersfield moved from 18th out of 25 af2 teams up to 11th from their last home game to now.
